Meet Andrew – Care Assistant

12 Oct 2026 | News

At Shirecare our dedicated team of carers is at the heart of everything we do. For our Meet the Team series, we’re introducing some of the wonderful people who make a difference to the lives of our clients every day.

This time, we’re getting to know Andrew Peck, who has been part of the Shirecare team for two and a half years. After spending 36 years working in factories, Andrew decided it was time for a change of direction. We caught up with him to find out what inspired his move into care, what he enjoys most about his role and what he likes to do outside work.

After working in factories for 36 years, I felt ready for a change and wanted to do something different. Moving into care was a completely new direction for me, but it’s given me the opportunity to meet new people and make a positive difference to their lives.

I love meeting people and being out and about. One of the best parts of my job is getting to know the people I care for, building relationships and making meaningful connections with them.

Knowing that we’re providing the best possible care and that our clients and their families genuinely appreciate what we do. It’s rewarding to see the difference good care can make to someone’s everyday life.

I think the care sector as a whole can be challenging, particularly with the demands placed on care providers. Shirecare works hard to deliver quality care despite those challenges, and it’s good to be part of a team that’s committed to supporting its clients.

Give it a try and keep an open mind! There will be challenges along the way, but you’ll learn a lot about yourself and other people. I’d encourage anyone who’s interested to give it at least a month and see how they get on.

I love quizzes! I even appeared on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? back in 2010, although I didn’t quite make it into the hot seat!

I like keeping fit and trying to eat healthily. I’ve also taken part in a few walking challenges to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

I’d like to continue learning and developing my skills. I’m happy at Shirecare and would love to stay with the company until I retire, although I’d quite like to reduce my hours a little along the way!

Thank you, Andrew!

Andrew’s enthusiasm for meeting people, building connections and making a difference is a great example of the qualities we value at Shirecare. His journey also shows that it’s never too late to explore a new career and discover how rewarding working in care can be.
