We want everyone to be able to use and enjoy our website, including people with visual, hearing, mobility and other accessibility needs. Many computers and devices have built-in tools to help users interact with online content more easily — and using these can make browsing this site simpler and more comfortable.

 

Below, we explain how to access some of these features on Windows and Apple systems.

Microsoft Windows — Ease of Access Centre

Windows (versions 7 through 10) includes an “Ease of Access Centre” that brings together accessibility settings in one place. One quick way to open it is to press and hold the Windows logo key (found between the Ctrl and Alt keys) and then press U.

Alternatively, you can open the Windows menu, select Settings, then choose the Ease of Access area from the sidebar.

What You Can Do There

Once you’re in the Ease of Access section, you’ll find options to customise your system — including tools that make navigating websites easier. For specific guidance on the accessibility features in the latest versions of Windows, please refer to Microsoft’s official resources.

Apple macOS — Accessibility

Mac computers also include a range of accessibility settings, such as screen zoom, voice narration (VoiceOver), keyboard aids like Sticky Keys and much more.

How to Open Accessibility Tools

You can bring up the Accessibility shortcuts panel quickly with a keyboard command:

  • On Mac laptops without Touch ID: Fn + Option + Command + F5

  • On Mac laptops with a Touch ID power button: Triple-press the Touch ID

  • On external keyboards: Option + Command + F5

You can also open the Apple menu () at the top left of your screen, select System Preferences, then choose Accessibility from the options.

What’s in the Accessibility Area

In this section of your Mac, you can switch on or adjust a variety of tools to suit your needs — including screen magnification, spoken content, keyboard and mouse options, captions, and more. You can find out more about Apple Accessibility Features here.
