Receiving an Alzheimer’s or dementia diagnosis is a major event for the individual and their loved ones. The good news is that independent living can absolutely continue with the right support. How Shirecare can help
We provide flexible, visiting care designed to support individuals with memory loss. Rather than a “one size fits all” package, we build our service around the person. We take the time to learn their history, their likes and dislikes and the small details that make a difference to their day. By introducing support gradually and respectfully, we help maintain a sense of independence while ensuring essential needs are met.
Managing Dementia and Alzheimer’s at home
Stability and familiarity become even more important when living with memory loss. The familiar surroundings of your own home can act as anchors which help to reduce confusion and anxiety. Moving to a new home or care environment can be very distressing, while remaining at home can help promote independence and a sense of identity.
We know caring for a loved one with dementia brings both emotional moments and practical worries. We aim to be a trusted partner in care. Our dedicated team works to ensure the home environment is as safe and supportive as possible. This includes helping to create a familiar daily routine, removing trip hazards and ensuring household tasks are manageable. We provide genuine reassurance; having a professional available to respond to any situation during the day brings calm and stability to the entire family.
Our trained professional staff
Caring for someone with dementia requires patience, empathy and specific skills. We choose our carers for their kind natures and undergo extensive training to support clients with cognitive challenges.
Our teams are trained to communicate clearly, manage changes in behaviour with dignity and spot the early signs of health issues that a client might not be able to verbalise. All our staff are fully vetted with enhanced DBS checks, so you have peace of mind about who is entering your home.
A Familiar Environment
The Benefits of Homecare Visits
There are many advantages to choosing homecare services over residential care.
Personal care and hygiene
We provide respectful assistance with morning and evening routines. This includes help with washing, dressing, toileting and personal hygiene. We focus on preserving dignity, so our clients look and feel their best without stress or embarrassment.
Meal prep
Good nutrition is important for maintaining your health and energy levels. Our carers can prepare your meals and ensure a balanced diet with your favourites mixed in!
Domestic help
Keeping on top of day-to-day domestic tasks can become difficult and is physically demanding. We can assist with light domestic tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, changing bed linen and laundry. This keeps the home hygienic, safe, and pleasant to be in.
Companionship
Unfortunately, loneliness is more common than we like to think, especially for people who may not be able to get out and about as easily as they used to. Beyond practical help in the home, our carers become trusted companions, providing that social interaction we all need. Whether it is having a chat over a cup of tea or sharing an interest, we offer a friendly face to brighten the day.
Why Choose Shirecare?
We are a local provider committed to raising the standard of care across our region. Choose us for:
-
Our safety-led culture
Our approach is built on a foundation of safety. Led by a Managing Director with a background as a Health and Safety Engineer, we apply strict risk assessments and governance to every visit. We prioritise the safety of our clients and staff above all else.
-
Consistent, regular care team
We know that seeing a stranger can be unsettling. We work hard to allocate a small, regular team to each client. This consistency allows genuine relationships to build, and our carers become very welcome visitors you can trust and rely upon.
-
Local knowledge
We are not a faceless agency. Our head office is based in Derbyshire, and our carers live in the communities they serve. We know the local area, meaning we are reliable and never far away when you need us.
-
Transparent communication
Many of our clients need their families to be fully informed of their care plan, and weβre more than happy to do this. We use digital care planning tools that allow us to track visits and update records in real-time. If there is ever a concern or a change in your loved oneβs condition, we will let you know immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will we see the same carer every time?
We understand the importance of consistency and recognise just how important it is to see familiar faces in your home, especially for clients with memory loss. While we cannot guarantee a single carer 24/7 due to breaks and holidays, we build a small, familiar team for each client.
How do you handle aggressive or confused behaviour?
Our staff are trained to understand that challenging behaviour is often a response to fear, confusion or an unmet need. We use de-escalation techniques and maintain a calm, reassuring presence to manage these situations safely and with dignity.
Can you help with medication management?
Yes. All our carers are trained in medication administration. We can prompt clients to take their medicine or administer it directly to ensure the correct dosage is taken at the right time. We also keep accurate records for the family.
Do you provide 24-hour care?
Shirecare specialises in visiting care (from short visits to multiple calls a day). We do not currently provide live-in or overnight care. However, we can provide multiple visits throughout the day to cover morning, lunch, tea-time and bedtime routines.
How quickly can you start?
We understand that care is often needed urgently. Once you contact us, we will arrange a home assessment as soon as possible. In many cases, we can have a care plan in place and support starting within a few days.
